It must have been only because of the camera… ah, of course, because of the camera!
Well, I run after him, I can’t help about it. My feet move on their own, and there is some dark fog covering my mind. I… have to find it out.
My voice has already reached him when I find him myself.
He stopped at a corner, his eyes are sparkling under his cap and he is smiling softly.
… as softly as he usually does. There isn’t anything special about that smile, but it still makes my cheeks hot and I feel grateful to the darkness for hiding my red face.
“Masei,” he bows a bit and as I can’t find the right words to ask what I want I keep on repeating his name again.
“… ern, Masei?”
“Ke… Kei-chan” I start again and try not to look at his patient expression “, Kei-chan, what… what was with that pulling, anyway?”
It must have been because of the camera. Only because of the camera!
Why am I so stupid to ask about it at all? This single question, my red cheeks… it is going to ruin everything!
“… pulling?” He asks back and I almost fall on the floor, not because of the running all way here to reach him, but because of the question itself.
I guessed it must have been because of the camera, but he even forgot it! It meant nothing to him, nothing like… nothing! But… but, yes, it must be better like that, he doesn’t even guess what I am talking about, I had better go home and take a bath and…
“Ah, you mean the pulling! When I pulled your chair closer, right?”
He breaks my agonized train of thoughts and when I look at his face he seems to be quite pleased with the fact that he found out what the heck I asked him about.
“Yes… yes, that pulling!” I nod twice quickly and even square my shoulders.
Kei-chan looks at me with his soft smile then pats my shoulder.
“The camera, Masei, the camera! You almost couldn’t be seen!”
And he even starts to shine like it was glory around his body, the glory of the heroic, helpful person that doesn’t let his colleague not be seen.
“Uh…” I reply hanging my head.
So, it really was because of it, after all…
“… uh?” He blinks at me with a concentrating expression on his face.
“I… I mean… tha… thank you! It… it was nice from you!” I even bow to him.
Kei-chan gently pats my head then everything I can hear is the sound of his leaving steps. I still stay bowed for seconds, it feels like everything slowed down… the moment I reach out and grab Kei-chan’s hand, when I place my lips on his to steal a kiss of split seconds, it all feels really, really long and my mind can’t really follow all the events anymore.
I step back and stare at Kei-chan’s face still holding his hand.
He doesn’t raise his sight at me; he keeps looking at the concrete under our feet.
We are in silent.
By the second minute, I start to get nervous.
I have always known that Kei-chan has to take his time to meditate about things properly and compose his theories in his mind, but as minutes pass by, I just have to think that he is wondering if he can leave me here alone simply or he should kick me before.
“Naruhodo,” he says in the end.
And he stops.
I am blinking then shake my head as I don’t understand what conclusion he jumped to.
He finally focuses at me, but his serious face makes me avoid being happy about it.
“Everything is clear now.”
“… everything?’ I raise my eyebrows.
His face suddenly brightens up like every single time he finds out something on his own. That smile there makes me feel some dancing flames in my chest and I hardly can breathe at all when he announces his idea.
“I know the reason of the scent in the studio! Masei, it was you who ate onion, right?”
I slap on my mouth and that’s to say, I wish a huge thing (like an airplane or a meteor) would slap me from the sky as well; that way at least, I could survive this awkward situation.
Kei-chan is quite pleased with himself and he pats my shoulders again with a wide smile on his face. He rarely can be seen like that, but I must say, the embarrassment doesn’t really let me melt away because of his looks.
I don’t really know if I should cry or simply run away, I just stand there holding my mouth with my hands, staring at the laughing Kei-chan.
In the end he looks like he felt sorry for me and pats my shoulder the umpteenth time today.
“Come on, Ma-bou, I will treat you for a supper,” he pulls me gently and I can’t help following him like a good puppy.
“But… but… Kei-chan!”
“… hm?” He doesn’t even look behind.
I know it isn’t the right time to ask it, but I finally decided to finish it. I don’t really care that it can turn worse now. I won’t stop before I find out if he feels the same way or quite the opposite. I won’t!
“But Kei-chan… about the kiss…”
“Don’t worry about it.”
Not to worry about it!? How can he be so insensitive?
“… eh? Ke… Kei-chan!”
“Don’t worry about it, Masei,” he eventually stops and smiles at me with that typical soft smile of his. “Don’t worry. I am going to order something with onion.”
And this way pulling me through the whole district could be like sending up a kite.
Yeah, I feel like flying, I fly through the pink skies riding some onion-smelling winds following my knight in shiny armour who sacrifices his menthol-tasting mouth at the shrine of our beginning love.
Or… I guess it was what he meant.
.oO The End Oo.
